Recordings

The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra already has a short but very successful discography composed of three CDs/DVDs edited jointly with Warner and one DVD published in collaboration with Euroarts.

• Live in Geneva

  

  The first of these recordings, which was placed on sale in July 2005, consists of a CD and a DVD of the last concert given by the orchestra during the 2004 tour in the Victoria Hall of Geneva, where the music performed was Symphony nº 5 in E major, Op. 64 by Tchaikovsky, the Vals Triste by Sibelius, and The Force of Destiny by Verdi. As well as the concert, the DVD includes the documentary Lessons in Harmony * In Conversation – Daniel Barenboim and Edward Said.

• The Ramallah Concert

  

  The second CD contains the live recording of the emblematic concert given in the Cultural Palace of Ramala to end the 2005 tour, where the orchestra interpreted Symphony nº 5 by Beethoven and the Sinfonia Concertante K297b by Mozart.

• DVD Ramallah

  

  A double DVD containing the Ramala concert and the documentary Knowledge Is The Beginning has also been published; it reflects the daily business of the orchestra and its rehearsals, travel, and desires, expressed personally by the musicians themselves, including their conductor Daniel Barenboim.

  The documentary Knowledge Is The Beginning has received recently the Emmy International award for Arts Programming.

• Live in Berlin

  

  The West-Eastern Divan Orchestra offered on the 27th of August, 2006 a concert at the prestigious Philharmonic of Berlin, where it played Symphony No. 9 by L. v. Beethoven together with the choir of the Staatsoper of Berlin and with the singers Angela Denoke (Soprano), Waltraud Meier (Mezzo-soprano), Burkhard Fritz (Tenor) and René Pape (Bass).

• Live from the Alhambra, Granada

  

  The West-Eastern Divan orchestra offered a concert on August 20th 2006 at the Palacio de Carlos V, in the Alhambra. This DVD was recorded live on that date. The repertoire was as follows:

  • Leonore Overture No. 3, op. 72a (L. v. Beethoven)
  • Fantasia on themes by Rossini (G. Bottesini). Arranged for cello, double bass and orchestra by Michinori Bunya
  • Symphony No. 1 in C minor, op. 68 (J. Brahms)
