
The Junta (government) of Andalusia made possible the Barenboim-Said Foundation project, shaping the proposition made by the Junta's president, D. Manuel Chaves, to Daniel Barenboim and Edward Said, with the idea of settling in Seville not only the headquarters of the Weast-Eastern Divan and other projects, but the Foundation itself.

With Daniel Barenboim words, "we need to make people aware of the urge of musical education as a culture-related element" Even if there is musical education, this one should be planned in a specialized way.

"Remember the solidarity shown to Palestine here and everywhere... and remember also that there is a cause to which many people have committed themselves, difficulties and terrible obstacles notwithstanding. The year 2011 marks the 12th anniversary of the creation of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. In 1999, Daniel Barenboim, together with the late Palestinian literary scholar Edward Said, decided to create a workshop for young musicians from Israel, palestinian territories and various Arab countries of the Middle East seeking to enable a intercultural dialogue and to promote the experience of collaborating on a matter of common interest.
